GetREAL Career Technical Education Summit
Get REAL is promoting a discussion surrounding CTE and will be hosting a
2008 Career and Technical Education Summit on January 15 at the
Sacramento Convention Center from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. It will include a
keynote luncheon, testimonials from educators and their students, a
policy development session with leading legislators and an exhibition of
student CTE coursework. An informal reception for all legislators and
staff will immediately follow the summit. For more information, check out the

Tell the Oakland School District not to close its Space Exploration Academies
The Space Science Outreach and Research (SSOAR) organization and its two charter schools in Oakland, known as The Space Exploration Academies, are in danger of being closed. Opened in 2006, these schools serve underprivileged, minority junior high and high school students. The schools use a space theme throughout the curricula to motivate students and to help gear their interests towards science and math. Please help us by voicing your support for SSOAR.

Help connect science and engineer retirees to the classroom
SEARCH (Scientists and Engineers Alternative Routes to Certification & Hiring) is a project designed to prove the feasibility and success of transferring retired aerospace technicians and engineers into public school teachers. In partnership with the California Troops to Teachers Program, the project has already lined up schools throughout the state that are willing to train and hire the teacher recruits. The program is now actively seeking retirees to engage in the program.
